It seems to me that in this day of age, we need to insult the people around us to make them our friends. Before you start running around willy nilly and lowering everyone’s self-esteem, let me explain. Obviously, this isn’t the case in most professional settings as well as even in a lot of people around the world (This may just pertain to the US actually). Wherever it applies, insulting your friend gives the impression that you’re comfortable around them and that you’re easy going. The mere fact that you can insult someone, have them insult you back, and stay friends with them means that both of you are consenting to befriending each other or strengthening that friendship that might have started as an awkotaco conversation. Cussing them out with a friendly tone (Kind of contradictory, right?) is quite acceptable in this culture. Cussing them out aggressively, however, is a whole different story. As long as they’re still smiling and a fight is not occurring, then you should be good.

Archive work matters because old thoughts only stay useful if they remain legible, searchable, and connected to the conversations around them.
